Say The Pledge Of Allegiance With Porky Pig

Without any reference to God. In honor of Flag Day in America, here is a clip from “Old Glory”, a 1939 Porky Pig cartoon which features a godless pledge in both print and recitation:

Of course, Porky was not an atheist activist trying to prove a point, he just lived in that pre-1954 America that had a more appropriately secular attitude towards pledging allegiance to a national flag meant to represent the freedoms, liberty, and justice of all.

As Porky reads it and as we all should read it, it goes “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, and a beleeba beleeba beleeba that’s all folks!”
